Barrita’s Letter regarding her orphanage fundraiser Feb 9 2011

We would like to thank you for attending ‘Valentine’s For Mexico’ last year! Your generous support and attendance was greatly appreciated!

On Feb. 9 2011, Cotton’s Chocolates & Sweet Smiles Foundation will be having their 2nd “Valentine’s for Mexico” silent auction and fundraiser dance. Kath and the Tomcats will be joining us as the live entertainment and Red Door Photography will be taking Valentine pictures. Tickets are $10 each or $15 at the door. That includes hot food and lots of tasty chocolate treats.

Our fundraiser will be held at Moejoe’s. Jen and Jeff, the owners of Moejoe’s and Naturally Fit in Vernon, have generously donated their establishment for the 2nd year in a row.

I will be traveling back to the “House of Hope and Faith”, an orphanage in Mexico, that I visited last year after our first fundraiser. This orphanage rescues and cares for children of the streets. These children have very disturbing stories and need our help. They have been exploited, abused and abandoned. This orphanage is in Bonfil, which is in a suburb of Cancun.

Ester, who is the house mother has been receiving treatment for cancer and is having a very difficult time. Ester, along with her husband and Sister Mary take care of these beautiful angels very much the same way we take care of our children. The children are very loved, they go to school and they attend church. This orphanage survives off of the kindness and generosity of others. They don’t receive any type of government funding and the orphanage itself is in desperate need of repairs.

Last year when I visited the orphanage I was so very touched by this woman, Ester. She now opens up her home to children in need 21 years after a baby was left on her door step. Ester and her husband are very humble and extremely giving. No child is ever turned away and they care for them like family.

The orphanage itself is in rough shape. The amount of repairs and improvements that need to be done is simply depressing. The bathrooms are very, very much in need of help. The toilets are broken, the plumbing doesn’t function properly and the sinks don’t work either. The shower stalls need to be taken out and the tile needs to be replaced. The kitchen and pantry are in bad shape as well.

When I return to the orphanage in March of this year, we will be renovating both bathrooms, the kitchen and the pantry. We will also be filling up their freezer again with much needed meat for the children.

This amazing woman and her beautiful children really need our help. Please come out on February 9, 2011 to support these children. It will be a wonderful evening filled with fun and love.

Thank you for your support and your generosity.
